From going round and round in circles with chatbots, to putting our trust in self-driving cars, there’s work to be done for designers when it comes to artificial intelligence.
New technology should never be about just novelty. At Designit, we want to explore how technology be used to solve people’s existing problems in new ways. With business investment in AI increasing sevenfold in just five years, for sure we’re not the only ones interested in the potential of AI. But as designers, we also see the potential for these ‘solutions’ to go awry. From going round and round in circles with chatbots, to putting our trust in self-driving cars, there’s work to be done for designers. How can we make human experiences with AI accessible, intuitive, or even fun for users? How do we make artificial intelligence less artificial and more intelligent? How do we make it more human?
To deepen our knowledge and develop our approach to AI design, we brought together multidisciplinary teams from our offices all over the world to our office in London. Kick-starting a series of design-led AI events, this pilot hackathon-style event focussed on how AI could help people in an area (all too) familiar for many of us: the workspace. Watch the video for a sneak peek of what they got up to, and stay tuned for more! This event was just the beginning – our next event is planned for Autumn 2017, when we’ll take another step in designing human-shaped AI.
