Situation
Smartmatic is a leading provider of election technology and services, offering governments around the world a portfolio of solutions to modernize elections and promote citizen participation. From strategy and product development, through to interface design, we worked with Smartmatic to create an efficient and auditable voting machine.
Collaboration
With elections attracting unprecedented attention – and voter participation decreasing – Smartmatic is laser-focused on bringing the advantages of legitimate and transparent electronic voting to citizens and governments around the world. Constantly evolving its election portfolio, Smartmatic partnered with Designit to define a new generation of election products and solutions with a consistent user experience strategy and design language.
Together, we designed a more inclusive and adaptable system to facilitate voting and increase voter participation, while maintaining a rigorous level of security. We created a new voting machine along with a roadmap for future product expansions, and equipped the management systems with interfaces that can be adapted to local voting laws and regulations. Our collaboration will enable governments to efficiently manage elections while also maintaining transparency throughout the process.
Outcomes
More than 5,000 of the new A4-500 voting machines were delivered for the 2018 Belgium elections. This is just one of the products we are helping Smartmatic develop within their latest election solutions portfolio. “Working with a globally present team like Designit, that really cared about understanding our needs and goals, was the best option to support us in designing an inclusive, secure, and intuitive voting system,” said Fernando Hernández, Director of Program Management, Smartmatic.
