On March 26, we published an article regarding an exciting new technology platform called Project COVID. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to check it out before you read this followup.
Earlier this year, Wipro Ventures portfolio company Avaamo — a deep-learning software company specializing in conversational interfaces — released a powerful new tool called Project COVID. This COVID-19 Intelligent Virtual Assistant was designed to provide users with answers to their COVID-19 questions by leveraging AI and deep-learning technologies to process documents from sources like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and others.
Since its launch on March 25, Project COVID has achieved some impressive numbers. It’s been installed on customer sites spanning six continents. It’s received queries from users across 23 different countries. At its peak, it received around 25,000 inquiries per day. And it’s ingested more than 10,000 documents. What’s interesting, though, is that when you consider these data points holistically, they paint an even larger picture.
Customization is Key
From the moment of its launch, Avaamo made Project COVID available for other organizations to implement on their own sites. This provided the opportunity for organizations to provide important safety information to their associates and other users via a website or intranet with very little investment on their part. As time passed, though, some of these organizations began to imagine new possibilities from the platform.
The early questions were simple: “Can you update the aesthetic of the platform so it matches our branding?” Easy enough. But then companies began thinking bigger. “Can you integrate this platform with our HR system so associates can use it to check their PTO balance?” These organizations were finding ways to take the powerful tool and use it to provide a more comprehensive experience for associates. Soon Avaamo was adapting the platform to meet needs and fill requests like processing vacation requests and helping users reset their organizational passwords.
Ultimately, the takeaway is that Avaamo’s Intelligent Virtual Assistant is powerful. It can integrate with other systems and offers functionality past simply answering questions. It can fulfill tasks in real-time, providing a more rewarding experience for associates and their employers without requiring more effort from support teams.
Speed Matters
Another impressive fact to note is the speed at which Project COVID was able to be deployed. Within about a week, Avaamo was able to take the project from its idea stage to production. In that short time, the platform ingested and processed thousands of documents. Following that, this timeframe also includes the Avaamo team’s work ironing out bugs and testing the platform for quality assurance.
In this particular scenario, having such a versatile and powerful tool is crucial. Within just days, Avaamo was able to launch a tool built to help hundreds of thousands of people navigate a particularly scary time. Scalability and speed aside, the fact that the platform has been able to utilize more than 10,000 documents is something that no human could realistically accomplish. It’s providing access to information that otherwise might not be available to those who need it in an easy-to-understand manner.
The takeaway? This technology isn’t limited to COVID-19. If an organization has digital documents the platform can ingest and understand, the platform can adapt and meet other needs just as effectively.
Dream It. Then Build It.
The most exciting part about Project COVID and the technology behind it is the level of customization that’s available. If there’s data that can be processed, the tool can handle it. Plus, just by nature of the platform, we’ve seen that it’s highly scalable and capable of delivering on a global basis. It can reach countless people worldwide.
The question is: How would you leverage this technology?
